Laparoscopic colectomy of colonic intussusceptions in adults
نویسندگان
چکیده
Adult intussusception is a rare entity. Most adult intussusceptions require surgical intervention because they have a high rate of pathologic leading point. Mandatory laparotomy and en bloc resection is recommended in colonic intussusceptions due to the possibility of malignancy. We report herein 3 cases of adult colonic intussusceptions. The intussusceptions were located in the sigmoid and rectum, which were managed by laparoscopic colectomy. Case 1 was managed by laparoscopic anterior resection and diverting ileostomy combined with perineal reduction. Perineal approach facilitated laparoscopic reduction. In case 2, intraoperative colonoscopy was performed to determine the distal resection margin. Intraoperative colonoscopy showed edematous bowel mucosa as well as leading point after reduction of intussusceptions. Case 3 showed asymptomatic transient rectorectal colonic intussusceptions.

Portal vein thrombosis after laparoscopic total colectomy for colonic inertia
Portal vein thrombosis (PVT) has been recently documented after a variety of laparoscopic surgeries. Although it is well established in splenectomies, its prevalence in other laparoscopic procedures is rare. PVT in colectomies has been associated with inflammatory processes, such as ulcerative colitis and diverticulitis. We report a case of postoperative PVT following a total abdominal colectom...
متن کاملThe Surgical Technique of Hand-Assisted Laparoscopic Sigmoid Colectomy
Although the first reported laparoscopic assisted colectomy was in 1991 [1], the number of laparoscopic colonic procedures remained a minority of colonic resections. This was attributed to the fact that laparoscopic colectomy is technically challenging and demands a long learning curve. Therefore, hand-assisted laparoscopic surgery (HALS) was advocated as a useful alternative to laparoscopic co...
متن کاملLaparoscopic Colectomy in the Management of Large, Sessile, Transformed Colorectal Polyps
BACKGROUND Colonic polyps are usually removed endoscopically. Surgical intervention is reserved for large, inaccessible colorectal polyps that have underdone malignant transformation. Laparoscopic management of colonic polyps has gained a well-defined role. METHODS Since 1993, 650 laparoscopic colectomies have been performed in our department. Twenty-eight patients with large, sessile, polyps...
متن کاملThe role of hand-assisted laparoscopic surgery in total colectomy for colonic inertia: a retrospective study
PURPOSE To compare and assess the efficacy, safety and utility of hand-assisted laparoscopic surgery (HALS) with open surgery (OS) in total colectomy with ileorectal for colonic inertia. METHODS From January 2001 to February 2012, 56 patients diagnosed with colonic inertia who failed to respond to medical treatments underwent hand-assisted laparoscopic total colectomy with ileorectal anastomo...
متن کاملMinimally Invasive Approaches for the Management of “Difficult” Colonic Polyps
Traditionally, patients with colonic polyps not amenable to endoscopic removal require open colectomy for management. We evaluated our experience with minimally invasive approaches including endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), laparoscopic-assisted endoscopic polypectomy (LAEP), and laparoscopic-assisted colectomy (LAC). Patients referred for surgery for colonic polyps were selected for one of ...
